SAE filmmaking lecturer presents at media symposium
Carl Schoenfeld, Module Leader for the BA (Hons) Film Making at SAE London, recently spoke at the "Mending the Gaps" symposium about his practice as film producer and its relevance for media professionals.
'Mending the Gaps' brought together media theorists and industry practitioners in a challenging exploration of the many gaps that are constantly experienced between media theory and practice.

Carl explained his experience that well-reflected viewing experiences play an essential role for media professionals. They form the basis for evaluation of films as well as TV shows and are actively used to develop and articulate the aims, structure, characterisation and style of one's own films. In his lecture, he applied David Kolb's Experiential Learning Circle to this process to analyse such personal strategies and adapt them for use in Higher Education.
The symposium created a space to develop these discussions with the specific goal of finding ways to blend media theory and practice, and to formulate new approaches to the debate. In the academic and media worlds, practice and theory can be thought and experienced in many ways. Mending the Gaps assembled the insights, analysis and ideas of researchers and media practitioners whose work brings both worlds together.
