SAE Glasgow students visit Tannoy factory.

SAE students attended the Tannoy loudspeaker factory for a guided tour of the impressive facility. The visit was scheduled to support a series of guest lectures delivered at SAE by Richard Herd.

The visit was scheduled to support a series of guest lectures delivered at SAE by Richard Herd (ex SAE Graduate and now marketing manager with Tannoy). Richard discussed many aspects of current super tweeter and IDP technologies and passed on many interesting and invaluable tips to the class.

At the factory the students had a chance to visit the anachoic chamber (An acoustically dead space without sound reflections) used for testing and gathering specification data. There was also a visit to the Tannoy listening room where an in depth demonstration was given, and this allowed the students to enjoy and compare various models including the prestigious top of the line audiophile range of hi-fi equipment.

The visit was concluded with a complete tour of the factory in order for all to see how the actual studio monitors are designed, assembled, finished and rigorously tested before shipping.
