1) MySpace: Hacking layouts with CSS

Thursday 12th April 6.30pm

MySpace hasn't got the best reputation amongst the Web students at SAE, as it encourages terrible visual design, limits the user to hacks and bad practices, contains user pages which can reduce the fastest internet connection to a crawl, blasts us with unrequested music...

However, no one can deny that it's the most successful network on the net, ever. It has allowed millions of users to have a presence on the net easily, and to try out one form of online social networking.

When the user wants to customise their site, this is when things can get tricky within the limits of the myspace interpretation of HTML and CSS, leaving many with a bad taste about web design (don't worry though! It's myspace's, not the web's fault!)

In this workshop (the first of a series, we hope) Itai Bercovier looks at this myspace interpretation of HTML and CSS, and demonstrates how the technologies work generally, then how myspace utilises them with a few different layouts and hacks.

Come along, and if you've worked on myspace customisation, why not share a few of your own tips!

2) Flash Top Ten Tips and Tricks

Saturday 21st April 2.00pm

This workshop, lead by Amir Dotan, introduces anyone nterested in the web, animation and interaction, to the wonderful world of Flash, with some tips and tricks along the way.

Flash just gets better and better, with the new takeover by Adobe we now have ActionScript 3.0 for coding interaction, Flex for Flash-like online applications, and yet at a basic level, Flash is just as easy to pick up and animate with.

With Morris the Monkey as a starring character, we'll look at some of the options available in Maya to bring him 'to life'.
