What does SAE stand for?
SAE was established in 1976 and was formally known as the (School of Audio Engineering) Over the years we have grown to become the largest education facility of it’s kind with 50 schools situated in major cities around the world. SAE Institute now also offers professional training courses in additional technical subjects such as Digital Film Making and 3D Digital Animation, Web design, games programming and more. our name was modified to reflect the addition of these
courses.
What can I expect from the courses that are on offer?
SAE students will benefit from our 30 years of experience in professional education. Our students expect much more than state run schools have to offer, they demand very high standards in the quality of the education they receive. SAE can accommodate these demands by using qualified professional lecturers with vast experience in their field. SAE training Studios are equipped to the highest standards, they are upgraded on a regular basis, and are available exclusively to our students for their in house training.
What is it like to study at SAE Institute?
The SAE environment is very different to what is found in mainstream education, we make every effort to create a very clean and welcoming relaxed atmosphere, we encourage our students to feel at home when they attend theory classes or practical lab time. We encourage participation in class lectures, students may ask questions that are relevant to the topic under discussion during class. We find that this approach helps to make classes more enjoyable for our students and helps to establish a deeper understanding.
If I submit my application but receive no reply, does this mean that I have been refused?
SAE will always reply to any applicant within two days.
If you have not received a reply, it is likely that we are not in receipt of your form. Please contact us to advise us that you have sent a registration to us.
What type of student does SAE attract?
We find that the majority of our students are enthusiastic people with a real desire to succeed in the industry, many come from a musical background, some have been using technical equipment as a serious hobby and wish to take it further, some are current members of bands, and many have no previous experience at all, but are very keen to learn. We also attract many students who started courses elsewhere but became disillusioned with poor quality courses that did not meet their expectations.
How in depth is the training offered by SAE?
SAE courses will provide you with an excellent grounding in the subject of your choice, Our aim is to train you to a very high standard and to ensure that you have a thorough understanding of current industry practices, and are able to operate the technical equipment found in today’s workplace. You will become more professional as you progress in your career. The courses at SAE are not to be considered as basic and will most definitely prepare you for a career in your chosen field. Hard work and determination will always be reflected in the results your studies with us.
Will I get a job when I graduate?
We cannot guarantee that any student will find employment, however we do find that students who work hard and show determination normally have success. SAE is contacted on a regular basis from employers in the industry. This allows us to send for interview those who have shown a willingness to do well. When should I apply for a place on the course?
Once you have decided that SAE is right for you, it is always best to apply early to secure your place. We do get very busy approaching our September intake so there has been cases in the past where we could no longer offer a place to some late applicants. This often leads to disappointment as we enrol on a first come first served basis.
Do I have to attend all of the classroom lectures?
SAE courses are designed to be intensive therefore it is in the best interest of each student to attend as many lectures as possible. In situations where holidays were booked prior to the course start, we can supply any missed lectures in handout form. It is up to the individual to catch up with any missed course work. Classroom lectures are a very important part of your course therefore all efforts should be made to avoid missed lectures.
How much practical time do I get?
One of the major advantages of becoming an SAE student is that we allocate practical time on an individual basis. Each student is allowed to have his or her very own studio sessions. Most students should be able to book on average a total of 200 studio hours during the course. We also offer overnight sessions for those who are really keen for extra hours. The chances are very high that we will offer much more studio time than you will want.

Foreign students arriving in Glasgow
Arriving in a new city for the first time to live for some time, especially if you don't have anyone to welcome you, can be a daunting experience, particularly in the very first days. Therefore we want to bring to those of you who don't have acquaintances in the city information that will render this experience less stressing.

Accommodation
Try to arrive some days before the start of the course so that you have time to settle. If you don't have a place where you are going to stay, book before hand at least a couple of nights in one of the hotels or accommodations, so that you have time to look for an appropriate place to live. Booking these days is important since many students are coming to start their courses at the several universities in Glasgow. On top of that, some other special occasions (like conferences) may add up to the case that you may not find a place to sleep (something that you will need badly)!
The rent contract can be for one year, so you would be bound to the place with no option to leave, therefore it is good to arrive to a hotel, because that allows you to assess the flats or rooms you are going to rent.
Personal Items
Since you are going to live for quite some time in the city and most accommodations don't offer all the nuts and bolts you need to do your daily activities, it is important that you make a balance of what you can bring and what you can buy in the city. However, remember that buying at good prices takes time to know where the best places to buy are, so the more important something is for you, the more important it is to bring it with you. Some of these may be:
-Single bed sheets (or double if coming with your partner).
-Duvet (quilt), blanket or sleeping bag
-pillow
-pans and pots
-cutlery
-cups and dishes
Transport
In Glasgow there is a bus network, a subway that goes around the city center and there is a train. In general terms, you can go almost anywhere by walking, but it can take you from 10 minutes up to 1 hour.
Once at the airport of Glasgow, you can take a taxi to the accommodation you booked. The cost may vary depending on the location of your destiny, but in general a trip to the city centre is about 20£. Alternatively, you can take a bus to the Buchanan Bus Station in the city centre which costs 6£ and from there you can take any of the alternatives.
A taxi ride in the city costs, depending on the distance, between £1 and £6.
The subway fare is £1, but you can buy an "All day ticket" for £1.90 and you can use it as many times as you want in that day. The nearest subway station to SAE Glasgow is Kinning Park and the most central station is Saint Enoch.

What is the SAE Diploma’s standing in the industry?
The Level of the SAE Diploma
The Diploma Programmes are 12 – 15 or 21-month courses. Applicants to the diploma courses normally need to be educated to GCSE level. Mature students may also be accepted onto the course if they can provide satisfactory evidence of their ability to pursue successfully the programme of study for which they are applying.
Students on the full-time Diploma course are expected to be putting in 20 – 30 hours (depending on subject) per week of lecture attendance/directed study/practical work.
Students who graduate from a Diploma at an SAE Institute with a final grade 10% higher than the passing grade may carry credit towards the SAE BA Honours Programmes (Recording Arts/Multimedia Arts/Film Making, respectively). Under these circumstances, a maximum of 180 credit points (out of 360 credits) may be allocated towards the degree.
The BA Honours courses are full-time courses taught at one of SAE Institute’s Degree Centre (including SAE London & Byron Bay) and are validated by Middlesex University, UK. Qualifying Diploma graduates will need to complete a 12-month full-time progression course for the BA Honours. Diploma students can usually apply for a place on the progression course during the diploma stage and a conditional offer is usually made to the student.
Although the SAE Diploma is not a HND (Higher National Diploma), it is loosely at the same level as it brings 50% of the credit of the whole BA Honours Degrees.
When do the next courses start?
SAE Institute in Glasgow offers two intakes per year. All courses will commence on the first week in March and September.
What is the Diploma pass mark?
The final pass grade for the diploma is set at 70% We feel that this helps to encourage our students to achieve a high standard of education. Students who complete all practical work and attend their classes should achieve in excess of 80%
Will I need any expensive books for my course?
All lectures are supported with handout materials, we would normally recommend some specialist books for further reference at the end of the course. There is no requirement to purchase any books or additional materials. You will be supplied with a brand new Mac book laptop computer within the first two weeks of commencing your Diploma level studies. (subject to our terms and conditions)
