Academic qualification in Digital Film
The Bachelor of Arts (Film Making) is an Honours level degree programme validated by Middlesex University. It incorporates the Digital Film Making diploma plus an additional 12 months 'progression year' of studies at degree level. In the UK this programme is currently only available at SAE London.

Film studies
In addition to the vocational nature of the diploma, the degree level has a more academic emphasis. Various topics are discussed and debated in depth, for example the convergence of technology and design, ethical and legal issues, roles of the producer and director, and the psychology of the filmmaking process. Students also learn to establish basic methodologies and skills needed to successfully undertake research in their chosen field. Students will examine the structure of the entertainment/’infotainment’ industries and the variety of policies and circumstance that affect them and the relationship to communications in general.
Students will also investigate a sense of aesthetic perspective in relation to film in order to cultivate an understanding of cultural nuances and imperatives over past ages and to stimulate and appreciate the ways various media have been used and integrated in the past to ‘capture’ images of the human experience.
Specialised Compositing Production
Advanced use of digital video editing and 3D design software applications is taught to help student to investigate and analyse a specific ‘high end’ technologies relevant to their Research Projects.. Business planning and management are also covered so that students are prepared to effectively participate in informed discussions and negotiation relevant to the film, music, and multimedia industries.
Industry Analysis & Research
Furthermore, students will undertake a major research project, enabling them to demonstrate the full range of their technical, creative and academic skills, and complete a work placement in the industry.
A Professional Qualification
In addition to greater industry recognition, the degree has the advantage of providing graduates with a much wider range of career options. This qualification also enables students to proceed to Masters and Doctorates degree level qualifications.
