The Music Industry - past, present & future:

During the programme students will learn the history of the music industry and the basic business structure of the music business including the various job roles. Students will also learn about the current challenges faced by all members of the music business and how current and future trends and technology will change the face of this industry.

Marketing/Publicity/Promotion:

Students will learn not only the traditional ways to promote and market music but will also create new ways to gain exposure for an artist or product. Students will also learn how to develop an artist or music product.

New Media for the Music Business:

Today it is essential to understand all aspects of the media industry. Students will not only learn about the music industry but about other media industries and how they relate to the music industry. Students will be able to create websites, promotional/marketing materials and audio and video files.

[subehadline]Making Money in the Music Business: Students will learn how artists currently make money in the industry through music sales, publishing, live performances, licensing and merchandising. Students will also focus on current changes in the industry and how this will affect how artists and music business professionals make money as well as learning how to continue to have successful and profitable careers in the future.

Business and Legal Aspects:

This includes legal aspects including copyrights, contracts and various other legal aspects related to this industry. This also covers the different types of businesses within the music industry as well as how to start your own business.
